“Attempts are made to open unlocked vehicle doors,” Detective Capt. Zotollo said. “If the doors are unlocked, the vehicle is entered and spare change or anything of value is taken.”
Two vehicles were stolen after the owners left the key fobs inside, the captain said.
“These incidents do not appear to be confined to any specific area,” he added.
Detectives are reviewing surveillance video and processing other evidence, Zotollo said.
Meanwhile, uniformed and undercover police are patrolling neighborhoods overnight.
“Please remember to lock your vehicle doors,” the captain said. “Be sure to remove any valuables – especially the key fob.”
He also asked residents and business owners to immediately call police to report any vehicle burglaries or suspicious activity: (201) 843-7000.
Dial 911 for a crime in progress or emergency, Zotollo said.
